This year's edition of Lutheran Christian Academy might be Darryl Schofield's best group yet. Led by Vernon Goodridge, LCA will have plenty of talent and size.

Darryl Schofield has certainly has his share of talent come through at Philadelphia Lutheran Christian Academy (Pa.), but is arguably his best team yet.

Vernon Goodridge is the marquee name of the group and the Mississippi State-bound 6-10, 215-pound senior big man is a defensive force – who is a legitimate McDonald’s All-American candidate.

Goodridge, who has only been playing organized basketball for a few years, chose the Bulldogs over Georgetown.

Schofield will likely start either 6-7 Khalil Hartwell, who has committed to Tennessee-Chattanooga, or 6-8, 215-pound Maurice Thomas, who has backed out of his pledge to UTEP, at the power forward spot. Dionte Christmas, a 6-6 swingman who is still uncommitted, is slated to play the small forward spot.

The backcourt will be big. Marc Egerson, a 6-5, 215-pound senior from Delaware, has committed to Georgetown and will start alongside 6-4 ½ Stefan Jackson, the UTEP-bound point guard who will run the team. Egerson recently came over to Lutheran from Berean Institute.

``We’ve got a lot of weapons,” Goodridge said. “Everyone on our team is dangerous.”

``Our guards are going to give people fits,” Schofield said. “We can start 6-5, 6-5 and 6-6 on the perimeter.”

Coming off the bench will be guards Omar Johnson (5-8), Calvin O’Neal (6-4), Kechan Myers (5-10), Mike Scott (5-11) and wings Paul Graham (6-4 ½) and Chris Matthews (6-4).

``We’ve got a lot of depth and plenty of guys who can shoot the ball,” Schofield said. “I can play 12 guys and that’s the biggest asset of the team.”

``The only thing I worry about is us sharing the ball,” he added. “We may have too much talent.”
