Prep Profile: Hill School

Seth Eilberg has had plenty of talent come through the Hill School program over the last few years, but no team in Pottstown, Pa., may boast the kind of talent he'll have this season.

Seth Eilberg and the Hill School (Pottstown, Pa.) put up 14 wins last season and claimed the Mercersburg Tournament after winning 16 in 2002-03. Don’t be surprised if that number jumps even higher this year.

With nine players returning, including 6-foot-4 junior wing Devon McBride, who missed a good portion of his sophomore season with a broken hand, Hill should be able to compete with the Blair’s and Lawrenceville’s this season.

``We have an unusually high number of returning impact players coming back and some good role players,” Eilberg said. “I’ve been here for four years and this is the deepest, most talented team we’ve had.”

McBride, who is being pursued by St. Bonaventure and URI, among others, should be Hill’s go-to guy and the Westchester, Pa., native will be joined by 6-9 senior forward Noah Levine, a skilled big man who averaged 12 points and 8 boards per game last season and is attracting plenty of interest from the Ivy’s with his 1190 SAT score and 3.2 GPA.

Levine, a New York native, didn’t play this past summer because of a broken hand. He has taken a visit to Dartmouth, UNH and Bucknell and will visit Columbia this weekend and plans to go to Princeton next weekend.

``Noah makes good decisions and has a high basketball IQ,” added Eilberg. ‘’He’s very smart, passes well and has extended range.”

Shane Kelly, a 6-5 swingman from New Jersey, is a quarterback who will likely play on the gridiron once he finishes at Hill. California native Shane Mahoney is a 5-10 junior who will run the team and he’ll be joined in the starting lineup by another west coast player – long and athletic 6-9 senior forward Evan Harris, who played with Bryce Taylor a year ago at Harvard-Westlake High.

Harris is looking at Brown, Dartmouth, Harvard, Penn and St. Bonaventure.

Hill will also bring co-captain Jason Miran as well as guards Corey Goff and Jason Brustein off the bench.

``We’re excited about our potential,” Eilberg said. “The depth we have is pretty special. If they play hard defensively, rebound and play together offensively and share the ball, we could have a really good year.”
