Prep Profile: Tilton School

The Tilton School isn't like some of its counterparts in New Hampshire. It's smaller and doesn't have the depth of Brewster or New Hampton, but Scott Willard does have a trio of D-1 players at his disposal.

Alfred Aboya finally has some help.

The 6-8 ½, 235-pound senior power forward from Cameroon, who is headed on an official this weekend to Georgetown and will likely pick from the Hoyas and UCLA in the near future, will be able to play his natural position now that 7-footer Liam Potter has arrived at the Tilton School (N.H.) from England.

Potter may not be quite as talented as Aboya, who averaged 22 points and 12 boards last season, but he’s got size (7-0, 230) and has already attracted plenty of interest from mid-majors such as Rhode Island, UNH, Rice, UMass, and Long Island.

``It’ll be a huge difference,” Tilton coach Scott Willard said. “Our biggest guy last year, other than Alfred, was 6-1. Now we’ll be able to do a lot of different things both offensively and defensively.”

Aboya and Potter aren’t the only two D-1 prospects. Willard will also have a solid point guard in Woodsburgh, N.Y. native Jon Han, a 6-foot, 170-pound senior getting looks from Loyola, Marist, Rider, Lehigh, Holy Cross and Colgate.

``Talent-wise, he’s the best point guard I’ve coached,” Willard said. “With two big guys like Alfred and Liam that can run the floor, he’ll get a chance to shine.”

However, Aboya will be the star player – even with added help this year.

``He’s come full circle,” Willard said. “When he came here, he didn’t have a post move. Now he’s got a few go-to moves and he’ll be able to face-up more this year playing the four.”

The final two starting spots will likely go to 6-6, 185-pound wing Ryan McDonough, who hails from Holliston, Mass., and is getting D-2 looks, as well as 6-1, 180-pound senior guard Dana Datillo – a Division 3 prospect who started last season for Willard.

``The size of our school doesn’t compare with the Brewster’s and Winchendon’s, but I think we’ll be competitive with anyone this year and we feel like we deserve to be on the floor with anyone. That wasn’t the case last year.” Other guys coming off the bench for Tilton include junior guards Marshall Brennan, Aaron Christian and Kevin Gonsalves – as well as post-grads Dana Mead and Tom White and senior Brandon White.
